Recycling and Sustainability
At Balloons and Sparkle our aim is to make our business as sustainable as practically possible. We understand that the environment is front and centre in everybody's minds. We have instigated many measures to become more sustainable including becoming part of a balloon recycling program.
Balloonrecycling.com.au has been established to recycle balloons of all kinds including latex balloons, foil balloons and even plastic balloons to give them another life and incorporate them into new and existing products. For every installation that we complete we will ask all clients to save the balloons. If we are returning to collect framing from our installations we will pop and recycle the balloons. We have a balloon recycling bin out the front of our warehouse where customers can drop off balloons to be recycled and we are working with Balloon Recycling Australia to make our industry more sustainable so that balloons will be there to enjoy for generations to come. PLEASE HELP US RECYCLE ALL BALLOONS. |
Other Initiatives - Plaster of Paris additive.
There are many other initiatives that we have instituted to assist in reducing our environmental footprint including:
Changing from plastic to sugar cane mulch for our plaster of paris weights and bases. These sugar cane punnets hold the plaster of paris in various decor pieces and weights that we make in house, we have now changed to a sugar cane mulch based punnet instead of plastic. We also add in recycled latex balloons into the plaster mix as another way of recycling the latex balloons we have used in decor installations, this is great for colours that are not so attractive such as browns, greens, gold and balloon colours that look dirty when recycled. Another great 2nd life use for balloons !

Balloons added to Resin Flooring
|
Latex and foil balloons are ground up into 8mm flakes and then added to Epoxy Resin flooring to add colour and texture. This photos do not do the final product justice but it is certainly a talking point.

Teddy Bear Stuffing
|
Latex balloon flakes can be added to Teddy Bears to provide a sustainable, non toxic stuffing, this adds weight and bulk to the teddy increasing it's perceived value, more similar applications are coming soon...

Balloon Confetti
|
We are currently experimenting turning latex balloons from balloon decor installations that we have completed into balloon confetti. This balloon confetti can be made of recycled latex balloons and foil balloons and can then be bagged and offered for sale to Balloon Companies Australia Wide as well as being used in our own operation.
